The Hilux Surf is impressive on many levels. Its eye-catching looks harken back to a special era in Toyota design, and its mechanicals are sturdy and sound. Used across the globe for various purposes, the diesel Hilux has a bulletproof reputation, and this SSR-G is equipped with some tasty options that make it highly desirable. This 1992 is finished in Prussian Red Pearl (25T), with special Recaro interior, and only 68K original miles. The body is in good shape, other than some light scuffs and small dings associated with normal wear and tear. Some Clear coat fading on rear passenger door. This Hilux is ready to conquer gravel, sand, snow, and tarmac here stateside. It has a new air filter along with 2 brand new batters installed as well as a new alternator and belts replaced. Timing belt was replaced only 6k Miles ago. All five tires were replaced with some 31" inch Toyo open country all-terrain tires.

While the cabin of the Hilux is simply laid out, it was thoughtfully laid out. The ride height, skinny pillars, and low beltlines lend themselves to a commanding view of the road. The driver and passenger both are snugly bolstered in special factory Recaro buckets. Details matter and these seats have mesh headrests and thigh support than are uncommon even in many sports cars of the time. They are devoid of any major damages such as rips, holes, and tears. Only Tear is on the driver Bolster. Another uncommon item, dual cup holders, retracts from the center stack so that a libation can be enjoyed. Typically the center consoles are broken, but the Japanese owner has a classy leather unit installed that is near mint. The dash and interior plastics are in above average shape, and they aren't weather faded or cracked like many. Convenience items include digital climate control and a fully operational sunroof. When the A/C isn't needed, it retracts and vents as well as lets in some natural light. Power amenities include a one-touch driver window and power mirrors and locks.

Beneath the muscular skin, is the real beauty. While the SUV of 2020 is a rolling computer, this Hilux is the polar opposite. A rudimentary body-on-frame chassis, with 4WD and Toyota's venerable 2L-TE turbodiesel. The 2.4L mill starts up with ease, and for those residing in colder climates, and "idle up" switch helps to dial up the heat quicker. Benefitting also from a fresh oil change, the Hilux needn't require a scheduled service for the next five-thousand kilometers. Acceleration is brisk up to highway speeds, and the low-end torque is just as good at traffic lights as it is for stump-pulling. The automatic transmission sends power through a selective transfer case for grip at all four corners. The suspension, another coveted option, wasn't offered on our stateside 4Runners. TEMS, an adjustable OEM suspension was found on higher spec models and gives the pilot the ability to adjust the platform feel on the fly. Sport and Touring settings give the driver more control, and the steering and brakes handle can cope with the 31" all-terrain tire. This a very capable truck, the Hilux is more than you need. The over engineered powertrain, aggressive aesthetic, and low cost of ownership make this an instant Japanese Classic.
